Janet Fagan

Born on Long Island, NY, Fagan was raised in Riverhead, a farming community on the north fork of the Island.   After graduating from Riverhead High School in 1958, she attended Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, where she received a BA in Sociology.  Having earned a MA degree in K-6 education from Syracuse University, she began her career in education in 1963 at the Westhampton Beach Elementary.  From 1966-1998, Fagan worked in the Harborfields School District in Greenlawn, NY teaching primary students. Having been Kindergarten Coordinator for several years, in 1994 she accepted the position of Lead Teacher for the creation and development of the new Early Childhood Center.  This involved administrative as well as teaching responsibilities.  Art was an integral part of the kindergarten program.

Fagan and her husband moved to Tempe in 1999 to live at Friendship Village.  Immediately Fagan became involved the many benefits of living in such a vibrant city. She became secretary, scholarship committee chair and eventually, president of the East Valley Retired Teachers’ Association.  Passionate about art, Fagan took classes at the Pyle Center.
