ARTIST
GAIL BOYD
artist statement:
I enjoy painting a wide range of subject matter. Landscapes, portraiture and abstract design are my main interests. Doing collage allows me to work with various shapes, colors and images and tap more readily into the right side of my brain. Many of my collages have become studies for later abstract paintings.
about:
After a career in the law, I returned to the drawing and painting that I loved as my younger self. Donna Levine, Instructor at the Pyle Adult Center, provided the long-term support that allowed me to develop art that was my own expression and to exhibit annually at the Tempe Library. As a member of the Tempe Artists Guild since 2008, I found a place to learn from fellow members and other local artists and to exhibit in many venues including the Tempe History Museum. I was a member and showed at Art on Boston, a cooperative art gallery in downtown Chandler, from 2007 to 2009. In 2013, I was invited to show several images in “Water Under the Bridge” at the Tempe Library. This journey of well over twenty years has resulted in an ongoing body of work that provided great pleasure in the doing and, I hope, some pleasure to those that view a piece here and there.
mediums: acrylic on canvas and collage
