Individual Mentor Consultations 2026

Individual Mentor Consultations will provide a private, 20-minute consultation between a TAG member and a professional visual artist to offer individualized feedback on the member’s body of work.

2025 Mentors with TAG President Marie Provine

TAG members will bring 6-8 of their paintings to the appointment. The mentor will examine the artworks, ask questions, discuss solutions to technical and creative issues, explore exhibition opportunities, and suggest new areas for creative growth.  Instructions for signing up for a time slot will be sent via email to TAG members.

2026 Individual Consultation Mentors:  These extraordinary mentors were either guest speakers in TAG’s Speaker Series or Workshop instructors for previous guild events. Saturday, June 6, noon-4 pm

• Frank Gonzales. Frank’s work is an exploration of noticing the extraordinary of everyday life through familiar, mundane and nostalgic elements. Themes of nature and Latino culture play a personal significance that has shaped the artists lifelong passion, in a wide range of mediums.
• Gingher Leyendecker  Gingher teaches beginning and advanced Life Drawing and Art Anatomy, and has also taught figure and portrait painting. She stresses skill development including anatomy, proportion, structure, mass, line quality, and composition by exploring techniques in charcoal, conte, and pastel as they pertain to the human form.
• Joan Waters Joan interprets the rhythms, shapes and movements found in nature, without directly representing easily recognizable objects or scenes. Each painting and sculpture embodies a powerful physical presence and spirit which evolves over time from the process of manual labor and working the metal intuitively.

Sunday, June 7, noon – 4pm

• Agustin Vargas Agustin’s work transports us to alternate realities, where we get captivated by the subtleties of colors, forms, brush strokes, and the artist’s imagination. The golden section and architectural designs underline his paintings’ compositions.  He works in all mediums.
• Sue Hunter Sue’s art is impressionist and full of color.  Landscapes, animals, figurative, and florals are some of the images that are subjects for paintings.  The play of light and shadow as well as contrast are part of the compositions.  She teaches at Shemer Art Center and works in all mediums.
• Cynthia Peterson Cynthia considers herself to be “a contemporary realist whose roots are in a classical tradition.” Much of her work consists of still-life constructions built around the way surfaces play with color and light. Peterson uses glass and other intriguing surfaces because of the way they reflect and distort shapes; the resulting images being both realistic and abstract. She uses watercolor because it allows her to achieve greater color luminosity in the illusion of transparent and reflective surfaces.

Each mentor will share expertise in oil, acrylic, mixed media, pastel, watercolor, We will rent meeting rooms at the Clark Park Community Center in Tempe and schedule members to attend their consultations at their appointed times.
