Summary

John Mainieri's solo exhibit is on display at Friendship Village for the month of January.

Humans aren’t the only ones who reside happily at Friendship Village.  Artist/resident John Mainieri reminds us that dogs and cats are also valued Village residents.  John brought home this point with eighteen lovingly produced paintings that currently are on display along the wall leading to Skirm Auditorium.  The theme of his solo exhibition, which will run through the month of January, is “Our Pets.”  This exhibit evolved over time as John accommodated more and more requests from friends and neighbors to paint their pets.  He asked each pet owner to share some history and thoughts about their animal, which he included in the exhibit.

John, an engineer by training, had a career teaching accounting and statistics.  He became a painter almost accidentally after enrolling in a drawing class to learn more about composition in pursuit of his interest in photography.  The teacher drew a still life in charcoal, then transformed it into a beautiful painting.  As John says, “My heart raced.  What was she doing??… I WAS HOOKED!”  More course increased John’s  confidence in using pastels, watercolor and acrylics to create art.  What luck for us and for those beloved pets that John fell in love with painting!

He would be happy to hear from you and provide information about his work jvmainieri@gmail.com
